What You'll Learn

Please be aware: The prerequisite for this class is Intro to Computer Aided Machining. Students signed up for this class who have not completed the prereqs may not be allows to take the class.

 

Additionally, this class requires a 2 hour lab portion in addition to the scheduled lecture. Lab portions are 1:1 student and instructor and will be scheduled at the end of the lecture.

 

Principles and operative skills to setup and operate Computer Numerical Control (CNC) milling machinery using a Fadal VMC 15XT. Instruction includes an overview of the machining process, quality control, metrology, inspection, blueprint reading. The instructor will emphasize safety during hands-on operations which will include tool wear/damage recognition.

  • Standard technique for part setup using a mill vise
  • Standard techniques for tool setup
  • Recognize the key functions of the machine that can be applied to all CNC machines
  • Understand essential CNC program code
  • Loading a program on the controller
  • Basic machine maintenance

Important Information

Safety glasses and closed-toed shoes are required when inside the lab area.

 

Prerequisites:

- Must Complete Manual Mill class, Intro to Computer Aided Manufacturing class, and Fusion 360 Class (if has no prior CAD experience) prior to attending.
